Get to Know Your Walker: Hannah Harris

Your dogs and cats love them, so we thought you might want to know a bit more about what makes our amazing Pet Care Professionals tick! Hannah is Boston Fetch’s longest-tenured team member and an essential part of the pack.

When did you start at Boston Fetch?

November 2, 2016

Tell us about your first day.

It’s a bit of a blur at this point — we were a much smaller company back then, just Sophie, Derrick, and a handful of walking staff. Sophie picked me up and we drove around meeting a whole bunch of dogs, including a pair of Frenchie puppies who were absolute maniacs (two bowling balls of chaos) and a very good girl named Suzzie, who passed away last year at 12 — a full-circle moment.

Do you have a favorite dog walking memory?

Not one specific memory, but some of my favorite moments are watching our puppies transition into adulthood. If we’re lucky to have them long enough, you eventually get to say, “Congratulations, you’re not the crazy one anymore!”

What’s your favorite walking route, and why?

I love a trip that takes me by the pond — it feels like a proper walk to make it all the way around. There’s always a nice cool breeze when it’s hot out, good opportunities for nature and people watching, and handy water fountains and trash cans.

Most surprising thing you’ve learned about dogs?

A surprisingly large proportion of this job is trying to convince dogs to do something they have absolutely no interest in doing. Not all dogs are food-motivated. And chicken bones are everywhere!

One piece of advice?

Wear wool socks.

One recommendation?

The new Robyn album, Sexistential.

Shout out to a local business?

Third Cliff — with an honorable mention to their Morning Buns.
