We’re Hiring a Senior Pet Handler!

Boston Fetch Senior Pet Handler Position

Location: Jamaica Plain

We are: a diverse group of people who love walking dogs and taking care of pets. Our passion is making sure our animal and human customers are both super happy. 

You are: an animal lover who also has excellent administrative and organizational skills. You have experience working with animals, preferably with a pet care company. You want to be part of a growing company in a growing industry and you see this as a great opportunity to advance in your field. You are super flexible, responsible and friendly, and you are willing to do (almost!) anything to make sure our pets, customers and staff are happy. 

  • Tasks/Responsibilities

    • Assist the Jamaica Plain Operations Manager in all daily operations

    • Train new handlers and introduce handlers to dogs

    • Weekend management (weekend scheduling, being on call, assigning walks, doing walks if needed)

    • Office hours (being physically available at the office)

    • Regular check-ins with handlers

    • Key and office management

    • 20-25 walks per week (as needed)

    • On call shifts for customer service/handler issues

    • Scheduling and working with Scout (our scheduling and walking software)

    • Dealing with difficult dogs and able to take care of cats

  • Structure

    • 30 hours per week

    • 3 weekdays per week, weekend management

    • About 5 walks per day on average

    • Office hours 2-3 hours per day

  • Experience/Requirements

    • 1+ years working for pet care company

    • Completion of NAPPS Pet Care Certification Course (within 3 months of hiring)

    • Management experience

    • Bike required, car a plus

    • Ability to do physical labor and work outdoors in all kinds of weather

    • Customer service experience

    • Administrative skills, including using software for scheduling (Scout), email (Google Workspace), CRM (Hubspot), etc.

    • Flexible, responsive, attention to detail, fastidious, dependable

Flexibility

Work around your schedule and leave the bulk of your day free for a second job or other pursuits. We do require a commitment of 4 weekdays per week, but those days and hours worked can be flexible.

Reliable Support

We're always available to help and direct you with any issues, whether dog-related or otherwise. Hit us up by phone, text or email whenever you need anything.

Full Employment, Not 1099

When you are hired by Boston Fetch you are a full employee, not an independent contractor. This means we contribute to Social Security and Medicare, and handle all witholdings and tax payments.

Training opportunities

After some time working with us, we will help pay for a Pet CPR course (Red Cross approved), and are happy to help with behavior and training courses. Plus you'll get tons of pet handling advice from us.
